Who we are

Anime Log (animelog.me) is a free, non-commercial anime and manga tracker run by an individual developer in Canada. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site, why, who else is involved, and how to get your data removed. There are no ads on Anime Log, and we don't sell or rent anyone's information.

What we collect

Without an account you can browse, search and see what's airing. We don't create a profile of you, but like any website our server sees your IP address and the pages you request (see "Technical information" below).

Your account. Your email address. If you sign up with an email and password, the password is handled by our sign-in provider (Supabase), stored in a scrambled (hashed) form, and never seen by us. If you use Sign in with Google, Google shares your email address, name and profile picture with our sign-in provider; Anime Log only uses your email address, to recognise your account.

Your profile. The username, display name and bio you choose, and any profile picture or banner you upload.

Your lists and rankings. The anime and manga you log, with status, score, progress and notes; your Top 10s and saved lists; categories you've hidden; shows you've marked "not interested"; and your settings.

Recommendation chats. What you type into the recommendation chat and the picks it gave. If you rate a reply (thumbs up or down, with an optional comment), a copy of that request and reply is kept to improve recommendations, even if you later delete the chat. Recommendations are worked out on our own server; your messages are not sent to an outside AI company.

Friends. Friend requests you send and receive, your friends, and the MyAnimeList users you follow.

MyAnimeList, if you connect it. The access keys MyAnimeList gives us after you approve the connection, plus your MyAnimeList username, profile picture and account number. We use them to import and update your list. You can disconnect at any time.

Technical information. Our server records requests (including IP addresses) in its logs, which are used to keep the site running and secure and are deleted after 30 days. To stop abuse, we briefly count requests per account or IP address in memory; those counts are not stored.

Your browser. The site saves a few things in your browser's local storage: your sign-in session and preferences such as light/dark mode, anime/manga side and title language. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.

Who can see what

  • Your friends can see your profile, your Top 10s, and your list unless you turn off list sharing in Settings.
  • Other users can find you by username to send a friend request, and see your username and profile picture.
  • Saved lists you choose to share are public: anyone with the link can see them, along with your username, and they can appear in search engines. You can make a list private again at any time.
  • Everything else (your email, chats, notes, MyAnimeList keys) is visible only to you.

Services we rely on

  • Supabase: sign-in, our database, and uploaded pictures.
  • Oracle Cloud: the server that runs the site.
  • Google: Sign in with Google, if you use it. Your browser also loads fonts from Google Fonts.
  • AniList and MyAnimeList: show information and scores. Cover images and character pictures are loaded by your browser directly from their servers.
  • Jikan (a public MyAnimeList reader): used to show public MyAnimeList profiles of users you follow.
  • YouTube: trailers, only when you press play on one.

These services may process data outside Canada, including in the United States. Each one handles the data under its own privacy policy.

Google user data

If you sign in with Google, Anime Log receives only basic profile information (your email address, name and profile picture) and uses only your email address, to sign you in and identify your account. We don't use it for advertising, don't sell it, and don't share it with anyone except the sign-in provider named above. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your account and everything in it: your lists, Top 10s, saved lists, chats, friends, MyAnimeList connection and pictures. Copies may remain in our private weekly backups for up to about two months before those backups are replaced.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile, list and rankings at any time.
  • Download your anime or manga list as a spreadsheet from Settings.
  • Turn list sharing with friends off, or make shared lists private again.
  • Disconnect MyAnimeList from Settings.
  • Delete your account from Settings.
  • Ask us what we hold about you, or to correct it, using the contact details below.

Children

Anime Log isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

The site only works over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, our database can only be reached by our own server, and access keys are kept server-side. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced on the site.
